This still happens in most underdeveloped nations, particularly rural areas. Such practices continue in areas that lack proper sanitation infrastructure and toilets. WebOne of SBM’s goals has been to eliminate open defecation by 2024. The survey assesses the performance of SBM in the four northern states, which constitute over two-fifths of India’s rural population. The authors say that, over the four years of SBM (2014-2024), the reduction in open defecation was approximately 26 per cent.
