The problem is that, in addition to the usual 3 twin and earth cores, the cable also has 2 smaller cores which I believe are used for some charger control / diagnostics. As ProDave says a chime transformer is normally connected directly to the lighting circuit. Replace the socket with a junction box or as you suggested a 5a plug and socket.
