Iranian forest
The Hyrcanian forests (Persian: جنگل های هیرکانی) are a zone of lush lowland and montane forests covering about 55,000 square kilometres (21,000 sq mi) adjoining the shores of the Caspian Sea of Iran and part of that of Azerbaijan. The forest is named after the ancient region of Hyrcania. In the World Wide Fund for Nature categorization, the ecoregion is referred to as the Caspian Hyrcanian mixed forests. WebAccording to the U.N. FAO, 6.8% or about 11,075,000 ha of Iran is forested, according to FAO. Of this 1.8% ( 200,000 ) is classified as primary forest, the most biodiverse and carbon-dense form of forest. Iran had 844,000 ha of planted forest. Iran's forests contain 258 million metric tons of carbon in living forest biomass.
